Byron takes top honors in MathCounts

BYRON – Congratulations to Byron Middle School’s MathCounts students for taking top honors at regional competition held at Sauk Valley Community College on Saturday, Feb. 10.

Byron’s team consisting of Rebekah Starwalt, Sadie Stickler, Joel Pauley and Maddy Cope received trophies for taking fourth place overall. In the individual round, Isaac Mondello took 4th place, Will Almy took 5th place and Maddy Cope took 6th place over all the students who competed.

In the oral math competition, three Byron students made it in the top eight: Almy, Mondello and Cope. Almy brought home a 3rd place trophy in this round. In the Alternates division, Josh Bianchi took 2nd place over all the students who competed in this category. Congratulations to all of the students on their outstanding performance.

Byron Middle School MathCounts teams are coached by Jackie DeVries. Coach DeVries started MathCounts at Byron Middle School 29 years ago and has been coaching teams since its inception.
