POLO – Dr. Elwynn Taylor, Iowa State Climatologist, was the featured speaker at a crop weather outlook and market insight meeting held Aug. 17 at Barnacopia in Polo.
Taylor spoke on the USDA crop report, U.S. drought index, aridity index and estimated crop yields. Also speaking was commodity broker, Brent Sandahl, who provided attendees with insight into possible markets highs and lows for the coming year.
Ed Vock, senior vice-president with Forreston State Bank, said the summit was planned by the bank because the success of the agricultural sector is important to the local community. Providing resources like Taylor and Sandahl can help farmers with challenging markets or weather.
The summit was sponsored by Carroll County Farm Bureau, Stephenson County Farm Bureau, Ogle County Farm Bureau and Forreston State Bank.
