MONROE CENTER – Herbert E. Herbeck, age 95, journeyed HOME February 2, 2018 to rejoice with Jesus and his dear wife “Lil.” Herb was born in Chicago, Aug. 23, 1922, the first-born son of Edward and Stacie (Kolar) Herbeck.

United States Coast Guard Seaman, First Class, Herb Herbeck met Lillian Waters, H.S. senior, on Onset Beach, MA on August 20, 1943. Less than a year later on June 20, 1944 they eloped. Herb worked 22 years for the State of Illinois Highway Department as a civil engineer. His love for Jesus was easily recognized in his kind character and gracious deeds. Herb absolutely loved Lillian, his children, extended family, friends and everyone he met. He mastered in conversation and encouragement.

Herbert is survived by daughter Susan (James) Moon of Monroe Center; daughter-in-law Joyce Herbeck of Bozeman, Mont.; sister-in-law, Doris Waters of Vancouver, Wash.; grandchildren Molly (Gene) Engelkes, Amanda (David) Poulin, Jason (Mariah) Herbeck, Josh (Staci) Herbeck and Journey Herbeck; great-grandchildren Connor, Dalton, Carson, Sidonie, Zadie and Ren; step great-grandchildren Kara (Drayton) Saunders, Jacob (Becca) Poulin and Zachary Poulin; step great-great-grandchildren Kinsley Grace and Drayton Beckett; numerous nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his wife Lillian Waters Herbeck, son Thomas Herbeck, grandson Jamie Moon, and brother Edward (Louise).

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, Feb. 16, 2018 at 2 p.m. in Kishwaukee Church, Stillman Valley, with Pastor Eric Tonjes officiating. Visitation to be held one hour prior to service. Memorials may be made to Pinecrest Manor, Kishwaukee Church or Serenity Hospice & Home. The family expresses sincere gratefulness to the loving staff and friends of Pinecrest.
