Howard R. Heid

MOUNT MORRIS – Howard R. Heid, 77, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018 at Oregon Living and Rehab in Oregon. Howard was born on April 28, 1940 in Chicago, and was the son of Fred J. Heid and Edna Hansen Heid.

Howard graduated from East High School in Rockford in 1958 where he was an outstanding swimmer. He then swam for the University of Iowa where he was an All -American swimmer. In 1963, he graduated with a degree in math and physics from Augustana College.

Howard married the love of his life Kathryn (Dunk) Heid on May 14, 1966 in Mount Morris. They lived in Beloit, Wis., for a short time where Howard was employed by Beloit Corp. They then moved to Madison, Wis., where Howard was employed by Gisholt Corp. as a design engineer. While in Madison they had 2 children, Kristin and Eric. Howard returned to school at the University of Wisconsin and earned a degree in Business Administration. He worked for LeBlond Machine Tool  as a sales engineer in Milwaukee, Wis., and later started his own company, Heidco.

In 1988 the family moved Charlotte, N.C. and continued the business there.

Howard and Kathy moved back to Mount Morris in 1999. There he pursed prerequesites for nursing and later did substitute teaching in the Oregon School District for several years.

Howard loved having fun, working hard and living life to its fullest. He was always on the go, whether working in business or doing chores around the house. He loved people and animals and will always be remembered for his smile and his good sense of humor.

Howard is survived by his wife, Kathy; son Eric (Susan Martin) Heid, grandchildren Lucas and Freja, of Madison, Wis. His sisters, Carolyn Meyers of San Antionio, Texas and Joan Ward of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

Howard is preceded in death by his parents and Daughter, Kristin.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018  at Disciples United Methodist Church in Mount Morris at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Julie Bunt Officiating. Visitation was at 10 a.m. until the service time. Burial will be at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Morris. Finch Funeral Home is providing cremation services.
