Special guest at annual walk/run

BYRON – Byron’s own Superbowl winner, Sean Considine, will start off the 10thAnnual Friends of the Poor Walk/ Run at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Sept. 23.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., the walk at 9 a.m., at the church parking lot at 220 E. Second Street.  Participants can get pledges or make a donation the day of the walk. Pledges can also be made online at www.fopwalk.org. For more information, call 815-234-7431.  All ages are welcome, and families are especially encouraged to come.

The event is the sole fundraiser for the local St. Vincent DePaul, a nonprofit organization that helps those confronting the financial, social, and emotional challenges of poverty in our own community. All proceeds and donations from the event will directly benefit the people in our community, and there are no administrative fees associated with the event
The Byron chapter serves Stillman Valley, Davis Junction, Monroe Center, as well as Byron. The charity also “twins” with other nearby organizations in Rochelle, Oregon and Freeport. The United Church of Byron and All Saints Lutheran are assisting with the event, providing water and snacks for participants.
Saint Vincent de Paul offers a variety of services, including home visits, housing assistance, food pantries, education and mentoring, and assistance with prescriptions and transportation. Disaster relief is an important service provided by local conferences as well as national and international.
Saint Vincent de Paul is an international, nonprofit, Catholic lay organization of more than 800,00 men and women who voluntarily join together to grow spiritually by offering person to person service to the needy and suffering in 150 countries on five continents.
