OREGON – Theodore Richard Day, aged 74, passed away on Monday morning, July 10, 2017 at Kishwaukee Hospital.
Rich, as he was known by friends and family, was born on June 13, 1943 in Chicago. Growing up in Des Plaines, Rich attended Maine West High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy as a Seabee and served in the Vietnam War.
After his service, Rich worked as a carpenter for Local 839, eventually being elected as a Business Agent for the union. By the end of his career, Rich acted as the Business Representative and Political Director for the Chicago District Council of Carpenters. He was also an active member and former Commander for the VFW Local Chapter 8739 in Oregon, and a Commander of VFW District 6 of Northern Illinois.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia (nee Lobb) Day, Daughters, Tatia (Don) Dugger, Elizabeth (Mike) Drager, and Son, Randy (Kathie) Day, and three grandchildren, Jacob Dugger, Zachary Dugger, and Charlotte Drager.
Rich is preceded in death by his parents, Richard Schlenvoigt and Geraldine (nee Kruger)Schlenvoigt.
Visitation was held from 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday, July 15, at Butala Funeral Home & Crematory located at 1405 DeKalb Ave. Sycamore, . A Service followed from noon-1 p.m., with a luncheon at the Elks Lodge in Sycamore from 1-3 p.m.
