Ogle County Sheriff’s Report: Jan. 26-30, 2024

OREGON — On Jan. 26 at 7:30 a.m. deputies were dispatched to the area of South Center Road and East Illinois Route 38 for the report of a school bus on fire.  The bus had only three occupants at the time of the fire. All occupants of the bus were evacuated prior to deputies’ arrival and there were no injuries. The school bus belonged to Illinois Central School Bus company that is contracted through the Rochelle School Districts. After a brief investigation, it was learned that a malfunction caused a small fire in the undercarriage of the bus where it was contained. Ogle County Sheriff's deputies were assisted by Rochelle and Flagg Center Fire.

On Jan. 27 at 6:42 p.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 1,200 block of East Illinois Route 38, Rochelle. After a brief investigation, deputies arrested Jose Gaspar Hernandez, 32, of DeKalb, for driving while license suspended. Gaspar Hernandez was released with a notice to appear. Gaspar Hernandez was also issued a citation for inoperable registration light.

On Jan. 28 at approximately 1:07 a.m. deputies responded to a property damage accident in the 18,000 block of East Illinois Route 38. After further investigation Joshua Cannova, 42, of DeKalb, was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol. Cannova was also cited for improper lane usage. Cannova was transported to the Ogle County Jail where he was released on a notice to appear.  All subjects are presumed innocent.

On Jan. 28 at approximately 12:42 a.m. deputies initiate a traffic stop on Interstate 39 southbound near Illinois Route 38. After further investigation Kentrell Jones, 30, of Muskogee Oklahoma, was placed under arrest for driving while license suspended. Jones was also cited for obstructed registration. Jones was released on a notice to appear.

On Jan. 28 at approximately 1:24 a.m. deputies and Oregon EMS responded to the 5,200 block of West Penn Corner Road for a reported single-vehicle accident with injuries. During an initial investigation, deputies determined a westbound vehicle, operated by Kayla J. Price, 25, of Oregon, failed to reduce speeds before exiting the roadway and striking an embankment. Price was transported to the KSB Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Price was issued citations for failure to reduce speed and driving while license suspended, with a notice to appear in court at a later date.

On Jan. 28 at 2:47 p.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop at Dement Road and Illinois Route 38. After a brief investigation, Deputies arrested Luis Cabrera, 36, of Rochelle, for driving while license suspended. Cabrera was released with a notice to appear. Cabrera was also issued citations for illegal window tint and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

On Jan. 29 at approximately 8:28 a.m. deputies responded to a two-vehicle accident with possible injuries in the 3,900 block of West Illinois Route 64. Upon arrival, Mt. Morris Fire/EMS attended to both drivers at the scene, and both refused medical attention. After investigation, deputies learned a white Chevrolet passenger car, driven by Kathleen York, 44, of Oregon, was traveling eastbound in the 3,900 block of West Illinois Route 64 and had begun to turn left into a driveway. A black Chrysler van, driven by Christine Roberts, 40, of Mt. Morris, was traveling westbound on Illinois Route 64 when the Chevrolet turned in front of it. The Chrysler then struck the Chevrolet on the passenger side, causing heavy damage. The Chrysler sustained heavy front right corner damage. York was issued a citation for improper left turn/oncoming traffic.

On Jan. 29 at approximately 7:37 p.m. deputies initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of North Chestnut Street and East 5th Street in Byron. After further investigation, deputies arrested Victoria Whittley, 29, of Lincolnwood, Illinois for driving while license suspended. Whittley was additionally cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and expired registration. Whittley was released on a notice to appear and given a future court date.

On Jan. 30 at approximately 2 a.m. deputies responded to the area of Leaf River and Byron in attempt to locate a vehicle involved in a domestic disturbance and suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. The vehicle was located in the area of Blackhawk Drive and Fox Run Lane in Byron, where deputies initiated an investigative traffic stop. After further investigation deputies arrested Buddy List, 47, of Leaf River, for driving while under the influence of alcohol. The passenger, Samantha Manley, 28, of Creston, was also taken into custody for two outstanding warrants, with Ogle and Lee County. Both individuals were taken into custody and transported to the Ogle County Jail.  List was released on a notice to appear.

All individuals are considered innocent until proven guilty.
