Albert R. Capes

BYRON – Albert R. Capes,73, died July19, 2020 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 14, 1947 to Rueben and Grace (Williams) Capes.

Al attended Byron schools where he met his future wife, Sherry. They were married 53 years the 14th of July.

He worked in construction, leaving Rockford Blacktop in 1999. He was a member of Laborers Local 32 for over 50 years. He took his final retirement in 2006 leaving more time to do the things he loved, golf being one of those. He was a lifetime hunter, fisherman and hunted morel mushrooms in the Spring. The family enjoyed delicious meals from these ventures. He hosted a Texas Hold-Em card club in his basement in the winter for many years. Al was a die-hard Chicago Bears fan taking the good with the bad!

He enjoyed his time with family especially his grandsons, PFC. Austin Capes stationed in Hawaii, A.J. Lawrence and Troy Lawrence of Sterling also teaching them the joys of fishing and hunting. He taught his family the importance of honesty, integrity, and dependability. Patience however was not one of his virtues.

He leaves behind a lifetime of friends, wife Sherry, son,Pete (Tammy) Capes, Oregon, daughter Cory (Joe) Lawrence, Sterling, two sisters Pat (Richard) Way Byron, Betty Jones, Winnebago, brother, George Capes, New Albany, Ind., Goddaughter Brandie Messer, Stillman Valley, Godson Toby Way Jr., Phoenix Ariz., special niece Cathy Aldridge, Stillman Valley and many more nieces and nephews.

Al was predeceased by his parents, five sisters Marge Sallee, Goldie Mrowiec, Bert Capes, Ruby Horath, Sadie McDuffie and a nephew Rich Capes.

Per Al's wishes there are no services. A celebration of Life will be held at a later date for family and friends.
