MOUNT MORRIS – Ann May Proud, age 93, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt passed away Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019 in Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home, Mount Morris. Ann was born on May 22, 1925 in Chicago, the daughter of Kasper E. and Barbara A (Heckler) Lung.

She grew up in Michigan and graduated from Allegan (Michigan) High School in 1943. She attended business school in Santa Barbara, Calif., and worked for Western Union in various places in Michigan.

While working for Western Union Ann married David E. Proud on June 27, 1947 in Kalamazoo, Mich.; they lived in Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids before moving to Lisle, where they resided for 31 years and raised four children. After retiring, the Prouds moved to Mount Morris in 1993; and David preceded her in death on Jan. 28, 2017. Aside from raising her four children, Ann worked in a creamery and a factory, taught preschool, worked retail for Marshall Field and Company and Sears, and was an administrative assistant at the Lisle Street Department.

Never one to hide her light under a bushel, Ann shared her many talents, including working with Cub Scouts, Campfire Girls, Girl Scouts, Lisle Heritage Society, Friends of the Lisle Library, Lisle Parents-Teacher Organization, Laubach literacy ESL program, Meals on Wheels, First Congregational Church (Lisle) and the Lumen Christi Presbyterian Church (Naperville), Christian Women’s Association, Lisle Doll Club, and the Welcome Wagon. During her years in Mt. Morris, Ann was involved in Senior Center activities, (Geriatric Jubilee), Christian Women’s club, home extension, First Presbyterian Church Women’s group, mission trips, such as the one to St. Colletta’s in Wisconsin, and other activities too numerous to mention.

A devoted mother and master craftswoman and artist, Ann will be sorely missed by her four children; son Danny Proud (Robin), Madison, Wis.; daughters Kathryn (Kit) Reynolds, Mount Morris, Cynthia McDonald (John), Broken Arrow, Okla., and Margaret (Peggy) Proud-Edwards (Tim Edwards), Aurora.; and by 7 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; brother: F.N. (Sharon) Lung; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ann is preceded in death by her parents; husband: David; brother: Casper Lung; sisters: Caroline Lung, Barbara Banks, Helen Lung, Catherine Lung, and Betty Schoen.

A service celebrating the life of Ann will be held in the spring.
