Canine costume contest winners named

OREGON – The Oregon Park District hosted the annual Howl'oween Canine Costume Contest on Oct. 18 at Wiggly Field Dog Park.

The event was co-sponsored by Pines Meadow Vet Clinic.

“This is an event the Park District holds annually because we can’t resist adorable canines in their costumes,” said Debbie Leffelman, Event Coordinator.

The contest is open to all dog lovers, not just the members at Wiggly Field Dog Park. The only requirement is a well-behaved dog, a cute costume and up to date Rabies vaccination. Spectators are always welcome too.

This year eight families participated with 10 dogs entered in the contest. The adorable canines were judged in three categories with awards going to the 1st and 2nd place winners of each. The dogs did a great job showing off as they paraded around in their Halloween outfits.

The first-place winner in the Best Store-Bought category was June Danekas and her dog Evee the spider. The first-place Group Costume prize went to the Girton family and their 3 little “hot dogs” named Moonshine, Squirt and Reeses. The 1st place winner in the Best Homemade Costume category was Charley the bubblegum machine and owner Shannon Meier.

All owners and their four-legged friends had a good. All dogs received a Halloween treat bag and all humans received treats from the Park District and information from Granny Rose Animal Shelter.

We look forward to offering the contest again next year. If you are interested in participating in fun events at Wiggly Field Dog Park, be sure to get a membership and enjoy all the amenities and enclosed place for play.  The Park District also offers other Dog programming giving owners more opportunity for socializing their dog and training.  For more information on programming opportunities with your pet go to www.oregonpark.org.
