POLO — Charles "Jerry" Schwingel passed away on Dec. 28 at age 88. He was born in Palatine, Illinois on April 5, 1934. His parents were Evelyn (Peterson) and Jacob Schwingel. He was one of eight children. In 1954, he enlisted in the Army. In 1959, he married Priscilla (Brif). They lived and raised three children in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
Jerry was self-employed and enjoyed his work doing home maintenance and remodeling. In 2005, he and Priscilla purchased a condo in Daytona Beach, Florida. In 2007, they purchased a small motor home and for 10 years they traveled to Florida to spend their winters. Jerry loved to travel and meet new people.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his son David, who recently passed away in February, his three brothers Jim, Ken and Bill, and his sister Judy Weisheit.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Priscilla, his daughter Sandra (Dan) Bocker, son Matthew (Heather) Schwingel and three sisters, Joyce Reeves, Jean Powell, and Janet (Cy) Boucher. He has five grandchildren, Hananiah Schwingel, Sydney (Andy) Bartelt, Steve, Spencer and Sawyer Frano and three great grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m on Saturday, Jan. 7 at St. Marks Lutheran Church at 201 N. Division Avenue, Polo. Visitation will be prior to start of services from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. also at the church. A luncheon will follow the service. Memorials may be sent to St. Marks Lutheran Church.
