Church gets new pastor

OREGON – Freedom Lutheran Church, Oregon, in conjunction with St. James Lutheran Church, Forreston, would like to welcome and congratulate our new pastor, Pastor Karyn Kost.

Pastor Karyn was recently ordained into the Northern Illinois Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).

Kost was born in Indianapolis, Ind., and baptized at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Whitestown, Ind. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind.

Prior to seminary, Karyn worked as a Process Engineering Supervisor for Bemis, Inc. She has her Master of Divinity degree from Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio. She completed her internship at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mount Morris, under the supervision of the Rev. Josh Ehrler.

In addition to her experience as a chemical engineer she served as the Activities and Waterfront Director at an Indiana Lutheran Camp as well as Chaplain at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. We look forward to her pastoral care.

Freedom and St. James Lutheran Churches have agreed to welcome Pastor Karyn into our congregations. Please join us in receiving Pastor Karyn by joining us in worship at an Installation Service to be held at St. James Lutheran Church, 6024 N. Columbine Rd. Forreston, on July 15th at 3:00 in the afternoon. There will be a reception following the service.

Freedom’s regular 5:45 p.m. service and St. James regular 9:30 a.m. service will be cancelled on July 15 in respect for the Installation Service.
