Eugene Arthur Moring

OREGON – Eugene Arthur Moring, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family in Oregon. Gene was born to Arthur Moring and Mabel Steinhagen in Shannon, on Oct. 30, 1930.

In 1948 he graduated from Lanark High School in Lanark. In 1950, married his high school sweetheart, Sally Stevens, of Oregon. They were married just shy of 70 years. He began his career working 20 years for Tikkala Construction Company where he learned the core aspects of the construction business including civil engineering, architecture, city planning, draftsmanship, carpentry, masonry, plumbing, heavy-machinery operation. He left to form his own company, Moring Construction, and was a prominent residential and commercial developer in Northern Illinois. Later he expanded and created multiple businesses in the energy industry, including Insul-Mor Manufacturing. 

Gene’s pastimes were many. He was a well-traveled birder, amateur archeologist, precision machine hobbyist and master cabinet craftsman for family and friends. Gene was an avid reader and his personal library contained thousands of books on diverse subjects. He was an amateur painter, a collector of antique and vintage tools and wood-working machinery, some dating from the early 20th century.

Gene was influential in the community as an active member of the Oregon Sportsman’s Club, JayCees, Oregon Stock Club, and the Oregon Golf Club.     

Gene was preceded in death by son, David, brother Marv, and sister Lorraine. Gene is survived by his wife Sally and 5 daughters: Catherine, Kathleen (Kitty), Debra, Elizabeth and Jeanine, seven grand-children and six great-grand-children, sisters Donna Smith and Kay Stitzel.

A Gene Moring Memorial has been established in his name for Serenity Hospice. Our family would like to thank that amazing organization for the great compassion and care they gave to all our family.

A Joint Celebration of Life will be held for Gene and Sally’s brother, Edward J. Stevens at a future date.
