Family Reading Night March 1

Posted

BYRON – Byron Kiwanis, Mary Morgan Elementary School, and Mr. Goodwater are partnering to sponsor a 2nd Annual Family Reading Night on Thursday March 1 to promote Literacy.

This free event is for Mary Morgan Kindergarten students and their families. Dinner will be served in the cafeteria from 5:30-6 p.m. and activities from 6-7:30 p.m. Please RSVP to your child’s Kindergarten teacher, letting them know how many parents and siblings will be attending.

Each Kindergartener will receive a free “Reading Rocks” tote, a Scholastic book and other giveaways. Siblings will enjoy activities and a take-home some goodies too.

We are celebrating National Reading Day, Dr. Seuss’ Birthday and the month for Annual Kiwanis “Read Around the World.” When parents are involved, children exhibit faster rates of literacy acquisition, earn higher grades and test scores, adapt better to school and attend more regularly.

This year, fifth-grade students entered drawings into a competition to create the 2018 “Reading Rocks” tote bag and T-shirt design. The 130 Kindergarteners voted and Kayleigh Rising won the contest and a $25 gift card. Youth and Adult T-shirts can be ordered online until Feb. 9 via the Kiwanis site:  https://squareup.com/store/kiwanis-of-byron.

Event questions, please contact Kiwanis President: Michelle Albert 815-985-5102.
