Gordon Paul Heid, 87, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2022. He was born Jan, 5, 1935 in Stockton, Ill., the son of Fred and Clara (Brunner) Heid.
He graduated from Lena High School with the class of 1952. On Sept. 19, 1953, he married Carol Rountree. They had two children: Robert and Julia. He married Doris Allan Fridley on June 13, 1976. His family now added her 3 boys: Don, Mike and Ken. On May 24, 1992, he was married to Patricia M. Langholf, which extended his family to include her children: Frank and Patty. He was the proud grandpa to 19 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
Gordon joined the Naval Reserve and volunteered for active duty in the United States Navy from 1954 to 1956. He graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1960. He was employed by Seidman & Seidman accounting firm in Rockford. In 1962, he joined Watt Publishing Co. in Mount Morris, in the accounting department. He retired as Treasurer/Controller in 1994. After retirement, he and Pat were volunteers with AARP TaxAide in Texas 2 area (Rio Grande Valley) and mission outreach Builders for the Lord.
While living in Mt. Morris, he was actively involved in the Mt. Morris Church of the Brethren, Camp Emmaus, Kiwanis, July 4th committee among others. He was a member of the Blackhawk Twirlers Square Dance club until it folded and is presently a member of Petunia City Squares in Beloit, Wis.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Patricia, sister, Marilyn Sowers, children Robert (Betty) Heid, Julia Nielsen, Donald (Lani) Fridley, Michael (Sue Martin) Fridley, Kenneth (Mary Kay) Fridley, Frank (Kathy) Langholf and Patricia J. (Larry) Shafer; 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces; nephews; and relatives.
Predeceased by wives, Carol, Doris; brothers Eldon, Lowell, Alan, Loyal and their wives.
Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 in Mt. Morris Church of the Brethren, 409 W. Brayton Rd., Mt. Morris, with Rev. Rodney Caldwell officiating. Visitation will be held 3 p.m. until time of service. Light meal and fellowship after the service at the church. Private burial in Silver Creek Cemetery, Leaf River, at a later date.
