LEAF RIVER – Harry Poggioli Jr., 74, of Leaf River, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 28, 2018, surrounded by his family, at Mercyhealth Rockford Memorial Hospital. Born May 28, 1944, in Belvidere, the son of Harry Albert and Nina Mae (Tate) Poggioli Sr. 

The Poggioli family moved to Leaf River where Harry’s parents operated Poggioli’s Royal Blue Store for many years. He graduated from Leaf River High School in 1962. Harry married Marletta Sue Jones on August 11, 1962, at Middle Creek Presbyterian Church near Winnebago.  

Harry loved working and spent his career installing commercial and residential flooring, remodeling homes and raising cattle on his farms. He was a mentor sharing his knowledge of his work with others. In addition to the love that he had for his children, Harry had a special love for his grandchildren and great-grandsons.

Harry’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Hosne Begum and the many wonderful nurses at Mercyhealth Cancer Center in Rockford, who knew Harry as Grandpa, for their phenomenal care, as well as to the entire staff on A3 for the comfort they provided during his final days.

Harry is survived by Sue Poggioli; children, Diane (Steve) Swanson of Leaf River, Daniel (Chris) Poggioli of Pecatonica, Dennis Poggioli of Chicago, Debra (Mike) Pratt of Shannon; grandchildren, Rebecca (Paul) Whalen, Kara Swanson (Kurt Bruning), Chad Swanson, Adriane Dirth, Angela (Ty) Patterson, Alyssa Poggioli, Amanda (Mitch) Hopkins, April Poggioli; great-grandsons, Cade Whalen, Parker Swanson, Hudson Patterson, Nash Patterson, Landon Hopkins, Weston Hopkins; brother, Rodney (Shirley) Poggioli of Leaf River; father-in-law, William Jones; brother-in-law, Gary (Karen) Jones; sisters-in-law, Carolyn (David) Johnson, Jan (Mike) Steele; several nephews, nieces and cousins.

Harry is predeceased by his parents.

Funeral service was 10 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2018, at Middle Creek Presbyterian Church, 12473 Montague Rd., Winnebago with Pastor Carroll Smith of the First Presbyterian Church of Winnebago officiating. Interment at Middle Creek Cemetery near Winnebago. Visitation was 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2018, at Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N.
