GRAND DETOUR – Helen R. Jones, 85, longtime area resident, died Sunday, June 11, 2017 in Avonlea Cottage, Dixon. Born March 4, 1932 in Ripley, the daughter of Loren and Mary (Cooper) Burnett.
Married to Melvin “Huck” Jones Feb. 7, 1958 in Ripley. Helen was a 1950 graduate of Tempe (Ariz.) High School and attended Oregon Bible College 1951-1952. She was employed by the Church of God General Conference 1952-1960 in the printing department and was an active member of Oregon Church of God. Helen was a loving housewife and mother whose family was most important to her, but also enjoyed sewing and gardening.
Survived by her husband, Huck Jones of Grand Detour; son, Jim (Krista) Jones of Dixon; daughters, Joyce (Jimbo) Callaway of Oregon and Marianne Jones of Dixon; grandchildren: Timothy (Mandi) Callaway, Eric (Brekk) Callaway, Paige Jones and Lee Jones; and 6 great grandchildren. Predeceased by her parents; granddaughter, Sarah Callaway; 3 brothers; and a sister.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 15 in Oregon Church of God with Pastor Michael Hoffman officiating. Burial in Grand Detour Cemetery. Visitation 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Helen’s name may be made to Oregon Church of God, Rock River Center or Serenity Hospice & Home. Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Oregon, assisted the family with arrangements.
