Janet Lowe Joesten, 84, passed away peacefully in Louisville, Colo., on June 23, with family at her side, after a long battle with dementia.

Janet, daughter of the late Herbert and Frances Lowe, was born in Indianapolis, Ind., on Oct. 30, 1933, and attended Butler University. She was the loving wife of Robert Joesten for 61 years, and they lived together in Indianapolis, England, Shelby County, Ind, and northern Indiana, before moving to Colorado last year.

Janet never met a homeless animal that she didn’t try to help, and she was a prolific volunteer, especially for organizations benefitting intellectually disabled children and children in need of extra support. She loved to travel, and reveled in seeing the world from the sky, be it in a jet airplane, glider, helicopter, hot air balloon, blimp, or parasail. Most of all, she loved her family, and cherished their time together.

Janet is survived by her husband, Robert, her children Nan Joesten (Hank Leeper) of Boulder, Colo.; Brian Joesten (Heidi) of Temperance, Mich.; and two grandchildren, James Joesten (Mary) of Auburn Hills, Mich., and Will Joesten (Sara) of Oxford, Ohio.

Services were held at the Balfour Retirement Community, Louisville, Colo. Memorial donations may be made to your favorite charity, the Alzheimer’s Association, or the Shelby County (IN) Blue River Community Foundation, www.blueriverfoundation.com.
