John Harry Remour

OREGON – John Harry Remour, 88, of Oregon and formerly of Sycamore, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2018 in Oregon Living & Rehabilitation Center. Born Oct. 23, 1930 in Havana, Ill., the son of Leslie and Justina "Jay" (Janssen) Remour.

He married Geraldine P. Davis (Leger) Sept. 9, 1993 in Sycamore. John was a veteran of the United States Army Security Agency as a repair person during the Korean War. He was employed by Rock River Valley Telephone Company, DeKalb Ogle Telephone Company, and Contel retiring in 1983. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed his time in Ontario, Canada. In 1984 John started Remour Fishing Reel Service in Sycamore, which he owned and operated for over 30 years. He was a collector of fishing reels, lures and miscellaneous fishing equipment and gear. For anyone who stopped at John's shop, you always left with some of his knowledge and sportman's wisdom. John was a member of Oregon Masonic Lodge #420 where he served as a Past Master. He was a life member of Oregon VFW Post #8739 and a member of the Sycamore Moose Lodge.

Survived by his son, David (Talene) Remour of Oregon; grandchildren, Joshua Remour and Sara (Frank) Rowe; great granddaughters, Ella and Alyssa Rowe; step-sons, Johnnie (Angie) Davis and Bart Davis; and step-grandchildren, Nick and Taylor Davis. Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Geri; and brother, George Remour.

A Memorial Visitation was held from 3-5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, 2018 in Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Oregon. Interment with military honors of John's cremated remains will be at a later date in Daysville Cemetery, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, memorials in John's name may be made to the Activities Dept. of Oregon Living & Rehab Center or to Rock River Center, Oregon.
