OREGON – Joseph E. Koning, 59, long-time Oregon resident, died Thursday, March 7, 2019 in his home. Born June 8, 1959 in Elgin, the son of Willard and Mildred (Longanecker) Koning.
Married to Cheryl Sargent October 8, 1983 in West Chicago; she died Nov. 4, 2014. Joseph was a 1977 graduate of Anawan High School and was employed as an engineer prior to retirement. He attended Oregon Church of God.
Survived by his son, Shane (Shannon) Koning of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; daughter, Kylee (Ben) Armstrong of Auburn, Wash.; grandson, Oliver Armstrong; brothers: David (Rena) Koning, Steve (Judy) Koning, Mark (Karen) Koning, Jim (Mary Ann) Koning, Dan (Lisa) Koning and Kevin (Monica) Koning; sister, Kathy (Trey) Barker; and his companion, Jeanna Funk of Mount. Morris.
Also predeceased by his parents.
Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 12 in Oregon Church of God preceded by a visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Pastor Michael Hoffman, of the church, officiated. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Joseph's name to Mercy Health Development Foundation - Cancer Center, Rockford. Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Oregon, assisted the family with arrangements.
