Kings School basketball teams hosting fundraiser at Culver’s

KINGS – Some local athletes are shooting for an opportunity to play in the big league.
Kings School varsity basketball players, hoping to participate in a tournament at Northern Illinois University in March, have been raising funds to make it so.
The next fundraiser will be held at Culver’s in Rochelle on Wednesday, Jan. 24 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. During that time, a portion of the sales will be given to the feeder school to offset the costs for the three games of tournament play.
Kings parent Kerri Villa-Nantz explained the idea is to give the varsity players the opportunity that kids from larger schools often have. Villa-Nantz and girls coach Niki Adamski thought the Culver’s Share Night would be another avenue to raise the funds needed. The players have been selling 50/50 raffle tickets at the home games as well.

“The share night at Culver’s is not only going to be a great way to help us raise some funds but it’s also a wonderful experience for the kids to work for an evening,” Villa-Nantz explained. “I think it helps to make them take some ownership of working towards the fundraising goal.”
The Kings community has always graciously contributed to various fundraisers and events throughout the year to help give the students experiences to make memories they will cherish forever.
Also contributing to the teams is Skyler Sarver with Midwest Signs and Designs. Sarver recently gave back over $400 from sales of custom designed shirts for the boys and girls varsity players.
Villa-Nantz said the teams are looking forward to the opportunity to play in the tournament.
“We are hoping the NIU experience is a positive memory for all of these young athletes. Without the support of families buying the 50/50 tickets and Culver’s allowing us to hold the share night these kids would not have this opportunity…we are all very thankful for the support.”
Villa-Nantz said they are hoping to make the tournament an annual tradition for the varsity players.
“It gives the kids something exciting to look forward to and a reason to stay in shape post-season!” added Villa-Nantz.
The Culver’s Share Night is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 24 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
