CHANA – Kurt B. Laurent, 75, of Chana, died Wednesday, April 28, 2021 in his home. Born in 1945 in Rockford, the son of Wilbur K. and Bernice (Welte) Laurent.

Married to Ellen Canfield in 1973 in Oregon. Kurt was a 1963 graduate of Rockford East High School and served in the U.S. Air Force. He owned and operated Chana Saw & Stove from 1983 to 2019. He was a member of Oregon Church of God where he was a Deacon for many years. Kurt enjoyed gardening, landscaping, nature and wood-carving. He also had a passion for collecting insects and butterflies.

Survived by his wife, Ellen Laurent of Chana; sons, Nathan (Latrice) Laurent and Jay Laurent, both of Chana; grandchildren: Paxton, London and Lauren; brother, Craig (Nancy) Laurent of Belvidere; and 9 nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Kermit Laurent. 

A private family graveside service was held at Chapel Hill Cemetery, Chana with Pastor Michael of Oregon Church of God presiding. Visitation was 3-6 p.m. Sunday, May 2 in the Oregon Church of God. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Kurt’s name may be made to the Oregon Church of God Deacon’s Fund or Serenity Hospice and Home, Oregon. Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Oregon assisted the family with arrangements.
