STILLMAN VALLEY – Leonard Raymond Steffen, age 87, died Monday, Nov. 2, 2020 at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford due to complications with Covid-19. He was born Feb. 4, 1933 in Rockford, the son to Clarence and Ruth (Bauder) Steffen. 

Leonard attended Rockford schools.  He served his country in the U.S. Army.  He married Joan M. Wells on June 19, 1971 in Stillman Valley. She preceded him on June 21, 2017. Upon returning home from his service in the Army, Leonard purchased a business on West State street for $ 25. He was an avid Cubs and Bears Fan. Leonard loved to play cards, especially poker. He enjoyed his daily trips to the Swedish pancake house in Byron where he could socialize with his many friends. 

He was predeceased by his parents, wife Joan, and brother Wayne Steffen. 

He is survived by his 3 stepchildren; Diana (Al) Klapp of Stillman Valley, Keith (Rose) Hall of Davis Junction, and Teresa (Larry) Anderson of Ashton, sister Betty Swanson of Hartford, Wis., step  grandchildren; Carri Davis, Dawn ( Aaron) Aaronson, Brent (Jennifer) Hall, Shannon (Kory Lindquist) Hall, Brock (Nicole) Hall, Ryan Anderson, Justin (Carrie) Anderson, and Brant (Kristine) Anderson, and many great grandchildren; Kayli, Jon, Kaitlin, Trae, Griffin, Hayden, Dane, Tate, Tripp, and Jaylynn.

Private family visitation will be at the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home in Stillman Valley. A graveside service will be 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 9, 2020 at the Roseland Cemetery on Crill Road near Monroe Center, IL with the Rev. Robert Mellon officiating.
