OREGON – The volume of documents and other items being reviewed by the lawyer representing the Byron man accused of killing his wife and son in 2016 has again delayed the next pre-trial hearing.
State’s Attorney Eric Morrow told Judge John Roe at a hearing on Jan. 8 that his office has provided defense attorney Christopher Derango with “thousands and thousands” of pages of discovery related to the case against Duane Meyer. Derango told the judge he needs more time to go through it all.
He also said that he has an expert looking at cellphone data related to the case and that he does not have a timeline as to when that expert will complete his examination.
Meyer is accused of setting the 2016 fire in Byron that killed his ex-wife Maggie Meyer and 3-year-old son Amos Meyer.
Roe set the next pre-trial hearing for March 4 at 1 :30 p.m.
Meyer was charged on Oct. 9, 2019 with four counts of first degree homicide, two counts of aggravated arson and one count of concealment of a homicidal death. He is currently being held in the Ogle County Jail on a $10 million bond.
