OREGON – Marvin E. Helfrich, Sr., 73, of Oregon, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2019 in Swedish-American Hospital, Rockford. Born Dec. 16, 1945 in Dixon, the son of Ray and Dorothy (Schultz) Helfrich.

Married to Susan DeForrest June 12, 1966 in Blanchard, Mich. Marv attended Dixon and Oregon schools and worked at E.D. Etnyre Company in Oregon 34 years, retiring in 2002. He was a perfectionist woodworker and enjoyed fishing and trap shooting. Marv was also an expert marksman who belonged to Tri-County Gun Club and the NRA.

Survived by his wife of 53 years, Susan Helfrich of Oregon; son, Marvin Helfrich, Jr. of Oregon; step-father, Homer Sell; brother, Richard (Mary) Helfrich of Dixon; sisters: Donna Hall of Port Byron, Wanda (Don) Apple of Sterling and Margie (Don) Simmons of Peoria; many nieces and nephews (who called him "Uncle Butch"), cousins and aunts.

Predeceased by his parents and older brother, Ray.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 1 in Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Oregon preceded by a visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Pastor David Rogula officiated. Memorials may be to Lighthouse United Methodist Church, Oregon.
