Maureen Karen “Mimi” Skurski

BYRON – Maureen Karen “Mimi” Skurski, age 66, was carried to her eternal home in the arms of her savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, March 27, 2017, after a brief illness. Maureen was born on Oct. 29, 1950, the daughter of Stanley and Nora (Burns) Skurski.
She graduated from Byron High School in 1968, where under the tutelage of Mrs. Hobart, she excelled in typing and stenography. These skills enabled Maureen to readily find employment wherever she applied. Maureen worked as a secretary in many fields; from the Kysor plant in Byron to an investment firm, to international real estate law office, Las Vegas Valley Water District, Clark County Court Clerk, Nevada Board of Realtors, MGM Grand purchasing dept., a bank corporate office in Chicago, and the Winnebago County Sanitation District; as well as with several area real estate offices. Maureen loved music and dancing,. She enjoyed shopping, cooking, parties, reading, and watching old movies. Maureen’s vocabulary was second to none and she enjoyed using those skills playing scrabble with her cousins. She was full of life and always helpful to others.
She was preceded in death by her father.
She is survived by her mother; sister, Norma (Harry) Adams of Byron; brothers, Stan (Tammy) Skurski of Las Vegas, Nev., and Howard Skurski of San Diego, Calif.; nieces and nephews, cousins, an aunt and uncles, and lifelong honorary sister, Claire Babbitt.
Funeral mass was held on Friday, March 31, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Byron with Father Howard Barch officiating. Visitation was held from 9-11:30 a.m. prior to the service. Burial in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Byron. In lieu of flowers, memorials are established for St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
