Melvin E. “Moe” Kielsmeier

MOUNT MORRIS – Melvin E. “Moe” Kielsmeier, age 84, passed away peacefully at Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home on Sunday Sept. 11, 2022.  Moe was born on Feb. 3, 1938 in Freeport, the son of Clarence and Ruth (Williams) Kielsmeier. He was a graduate of Mt. Morris High School class of 1957. Moe married Nancy Glotfelty on Oct. 12, 1957 in the Mt. Morris Brethren Church; Nancy was Moe’s high school sweetheart for 65 years.

He worked for Sunstrand Corp for 30 years. He and Nancy opened Moe’s Bait Shop in 1989 in Oregon on the Rock River. He was an active member of the Rock River Community, and he was a vital part of moving and restoring the historic Chana school to Oregon. Upon retirement they moved to the Winnebago Countryside.  Moe built a beautiful home and dug a 4 acre lake and stocked it full of fish.  Moe was an avid outdoorsman and devoted member of Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited, Sundstrand fishing club, and he attended the Oshkosh Air Show annually. His faith was very important to him and was a member of the Mt. Morris Evangelical Free Church since 1964.

Moe is survived by his wife: Nancy Glotfelty Kielsmeier; son: Ken (Jodi) Kielsmeier, Oregon; daughters: Peggy (Jeff) Tikson, Nashville, Tenn.; Pam (Carl) Ratmeyer, Rockford; and Christy (the late Brian) Donnelli, Rockford; 10 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Memorial services were held on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022 at 11 a.m. in the Mt. Morris Evangelical Free Church, with Pastor Bruce McKanna officiating. Visitation was held on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022 from 10 a.m. until service time in the church.
