Nellene M. Jeter

BYRON – Nellene M. Jeter, age 83, died Monday, March 19, 2018 at her home in Byron surrounded by her loving family. She was born Nov. 20, 1934 the daughter of Philip and Marie (Groff) Morrison. 

She graduated from Byron High School in 1953. She married Charles D. Jeter on Nov. 18, 1956 in Byron. Nellene was very active in the Byron community serving as a volunteer for the Byron Museum and serving on the Board of Directors. She also volunteered at the Mary Morgan School by decorating the memorabilia show cases. She volunteered for the Byron Fire Dept. and Stillman Valley Fire Dept. doing history research. She volunteered by creating the Byron Wall of Mayors. She volunteered at the Ogle County Education Coop as a teacher’s aid, and was a crossing guard for 18 ½ years.   

She was a Studs Terkel Award recipient for all the history research she has done for the Byron community. She was a member of the United Church of Byron. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Charles. 

She is survived by her three daughters: Hedii (Tim) Wiltfang of Oregon, Holii (Bob) Gayden of Byron, and Hope (Scott) DeVries of Byron; seven siblings: Leland “Sam” (Joyce) Morrison, Joan Hackett, Shirley Houle, Shawn (Jan) Morrison, Carla (Joe) Fiorello, Becky Little, and Philip “JR” Morrison; grandchildren: Michael (Erin) Wiltfang, Eric (Kristina) Wiltfang, Tyler Wiltang, Kyler and Thera Anspach, Amaris, Bobby, Noah, and Noel Gayden, Ryan and Shane DeVries; great grandchildren: Harmony, Trey, Maxx, Eralynn, Emree, Myriah, Makena, and Cade, many nieces and nephews. 

Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Monday, March 26, 2018 at the United Church of Byron with the Rev. Jesse Tanner pastor of the church officiating. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 3-6 p.m. at the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 506 W. Merchant St. in Byron. Memorials may be directed to the family for Autistic Education purposes.
