Ogle County Sheriff’s Report: May 9, 2023

OREGON — On April 25 at 10 a.m. deputies were dispatched to a complaint of a vehicle passing a stopped school bus in the 5,000 block of North Blackwood Road, Davis Junction. On May 9 at 6 p.m. deputies completed the investigation, and arrested Derek V. Wassilak, 49, of Davis Junction for driving on a revoked license and passing a school bus loading/unloading. Wassilak was released on an I-Bond with a court date to appear.

On May 9 at approximately 7:22 p.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Blackhawk Drive and Peru Street in Byron. After investigation, deputies placed Benjamin Jacobs under arrest for driving while license suspended. Jacobs was additionally issued a citation for an expired registration sticker. Jacobs was released on an I-Bond at the scene and given a future court date.

On May 9 at approximately 8:25 p.m. deputies and the Rochelle Fire Department responded to the intersection of East Flagg Road and South Queens Road for a two-vehicle accident with minor injuries. After investigation, it was determined that a maroon Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Nathan Laws, 24, of Rochelle, was traveling eastbound on East Flagg Road, when he rear-ended a black Chevrolet Trax, driven by Stephanie White, 31, of Rochelle, who was stopped at the above-mentioned intersection. Both vehicles traveled into the south ditch, where they came to rest. White and two juveniles were transported to the Rochelle Community Hospital and treated for minor injuries. Laws was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and released on scene.

All individuals are considered innocent until proven guilty.
