Ogle County Sheriff’s Report: Oct. 25-26, 2023

OREGON — On Oct. 25 at approximately 5:33 a.m. deputies with the assistance of the Stillman Valley Fire Department responded to Meridian Road and Kishwaukee Road for a reported one-vehicle accident with injuries. After a brief investigation, it was determined that a Nissan Rogue driven by Florije Zeqiri, 47, of Rockford, failed to negotiate the curve and left the roadway. The vehicle struck an embankment before becoming airborne. Zeqiri and 19-year-old passenger Besiana Zeqiri of Rockford were transported to the Swedish American Hospital for apparent minor injuries. Florije Zeqiri was cited for improper lane usage.

On Oct. 25 at approximately 6:15 p.m. deputies responded to the 6,000 block of North Freeport Road for a two-vehicle crash. A preliminary investigation revealed a vehicle being driven by Rafael Santos, 41, of Freeport, was traveling northbound when it crossed the center line and collided with a southbound vehicle being driven by Gabriel Goldsmith, 43, of Freeport. Goldsmith sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Santos sustained serious injuries and was transported to Freeport Memorial Hospital, where he was later transferred to OSF Saint Anthony Hospital in Rockford.  Santos was issued citations for no valid driver's license, improper lane usage and driving under the influence of alcohol. Deputies were assisted at the scene by Forreston Fire/EMS, Polo Fire/EMS, and the Ogle County Coroner's Office.  The crash remains under investigation with future charges pending. 

On Oct. 26 at 3:31 p.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop at Shell Gas Station in Grand Detour. After a brief investigation, deputies arrested, Christopher Rasmussen, 46, of Grand Detour, for driving while license revoked. Rasmussen was transported to the Ogle County Jail and released with a notice to appear. Rasmussen was also issued a citation for a seatbelt violation.

All individuals are considered innocent until proven guilty.
