Paul Shefcik

OREGON – Paul Shefcik, age 83, died Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon. Paul was born on Feb. 10, 1935 and raised in Chicago.

He graduated from Gage Park High School in Chicago. Paul served in the U.S. Coast Guard and was stationed in Greenland for 1 year. Later he was stationed in Traverse City, MIich., where he met the love of his life, Mary (Paterson)  The day he met her he said he was going to marry that girl. They married on April 12, 1958. They raised 3 children.  

Paul worked for The Peoples Gas Company, Chicago for 31 years. Mary and Paul retired in Oregon, and lived there for 27 years. They loved the area and the many friends they made. Paul loved spending time with his family. Caravanning to northern Wisconsin and renting cabins with the entire family, his kids and their spouses and the grandchildren. Even the dogs. He also liked to work in the yard, refinishing furniture, working crossword puzzles. He loved dill pickles and 5 lb Hershey bars. Most of all he loved sharing his life with Mary, his wife of 50 years. They did everything together.  

Paul is survived by his 3 children Barbara Shefcik (Michael Delehoy) of Elgin, David (Maureen) Shefcik of Union, and Carolyn (Lou) Flinker of Carol Stream, sister Alice O’Donnell of Marysville, Wash., 7 grandchildren; Matthew Flinker, Lindsay Flinker, Kelly (Matt) Schloss-Harrington, Colleen Schloss, David Shefcik, Jr. (Fiancé Vanessa), Shannon Shefcik, and Sarah Shefcik. 

He was predeceased in death by his parents and his wife Mary.
