Richard James Toops (Rick) passed away unexpectedly at home in Rockford I on Oct, 19, 2021 at the age of 63. Rick was born on Nov. 18, 1957 to James and Marguerite (Maas) Toops.
Rick was a 1975 graduate of Byron High School where he participated in many athletics. He also attended Augustana College. Rick worked in the construction industry in the Chicago and Los Angeles area for many years. He eventually moved back to the Rockford area and started working in industrial Industries. He retired from Delta power hydraulic company in Rockford in 2019.
Survived by his wife Sharon K Chamerlain and stepchildren. Children Nathan and Melissa Toops of the Romeoville Chicago area. Brothers James Toops of Huntsville, Ala., and Ronald Toops of Byron. Sister Beverly (Paul) Fermanich of Rockford. Nephews Eric and Chris Toops, Nicholas Toops, Dennis (Dawn) Fermanich, Douglas (Lisa) Fermanich, Daniel (Traci) Fermanich, David (Shannon) Fermanich Nieces Monica (Tyler) Hyndman, Kayla ( Erik) Braun and Diane (John) Thibodeau and many aunts and uncles and cousins.
Predeceased by his parents James and Marguerite (Maas) Toops. Paternal grandparents Clarence H and Cecilia L (Kottenstette) Toops and Maternal grandparents Ike and Ada (DeVries) Maas.
Visitation will be on Dec. 1st at 2 p.m. at Ebenezer Reformed Church, with funeral services following at 2:45 p.m. with Pastor Josiah Youngquist officiating. A private burial will be at Ebenezer Reformed Cemetery. The family requests Memorial tributes to be directed to the Richard Toops funeral fund to assist with expenses.
