STILLMAN VALLEY – Angela Palmer, Stillman Valley High School English teacher, has received the University of Chicago Outstanding Educator Award.

She was nominated by Nate Youman, SVHS 2021 Graduate, who now attends University of Chicago. Nate said in his letter to Mrs. Palmer, “You have been such a blessing in my life.  It was in your class freshman year that I felt I truly began to grow as a person.  Your class discussions provoked intense thought and allowed me to find untapped charisma and confidence I really don’t know where I would be without.  You’ve always been kind, supportive, and invested in your students’ lives, and I’m quite thankful for that.  You’ve also given me such and intense love for all thing’s literature.  I’m now eager for complex classics I can sink my teeth into and find themes, symbolism and (dare I say it??) juxtaposition.”

“Angie is an incredible asset to our district and more than deserving of this honor,” said Superintendent Dr. PJ Caposey. “Angie does the right thing the right way all the time and it’s incredible to see her recognized in such a public manner for her incredible work. We are very lucky to have her on our team.”

Palmer teaches Speech, Advanced English and AP English at SVHS. She is also a Division Leader for the English Department, Freshman Class Adviser, and Book Club Adviser at SVHS.

An Outstanding Educator shapes young minds in meaningful ways—thoughtfully approaching instruction, sharing an infectious love for learning, and caring for students both inside and outside of the classroom. Each year, newly admitted UChicago students have the opportunity to reflect on their time in school and nominate an educator who played a significant role in their education, made a positive impact in their lives, and whose influence has brought them to where they are today.

The University of Chicago is honored to recognize excellence in teaching and sincerely congratulates this year’s Outstanding Educator Award winners, who are exceptional in their field and role models for all students. The University deeply appreciates the lively minds who thirst for knowledge that these educators have nurtured and inspired. UChicago thanks them for going above and beyond the call of duty every day and leaving an impression that will be carried over a lifetime.  All award winners receive a commemorative award, certificate, and letter that includes details from the student by whom they were nominated.
