BYRON – Shawn M. Nielsen, age 37, died on Saturday Nov. 30, 2019 at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford. He was born on Feb. 6, 1982 in Elgin the son of William and Janet (Spradlin) Nielsen.
He was a graduate of Byron High School class of 2000. He married April Denton on Oc. 20, 2017. Shawn was well known in the area for his work owning and operating Nielsen Automotive and Nielsen Towing and Recovery. He is a former Byron firefighter and EMT. He was a member of First Born Reach in Byron. Shawn was a 20 year Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma cancer survivor. He enjoyed Nascar races, demolition derbies, and ran a stockcar for Rockford Speedway. He loved bowling in his spare time. Shawn was an avid Donald Trump supporter and a die-hard Elvis Presley fan. Above all else, he was a family man who loved being a dad.
He is survived by his loving wife April of Byron; mother, Janet Nielsen of Oregon; children, Preston, Seth, Sheldon, Bayleigh, and Landon all of Byron; siblings, Jennifer (Jason Wescott) Jamison of Byron, William (Michelle) Nielsen of Schaumburg, and Shane Nielson of Oregon; maternal grandfather, John Spradlin of Oregon; brother in laws, Rick Denton and Dale Denton; right hand man and nephew, John (Amber Brown) Jamison; and nieces Amber Jamison, Sydney Nielsen, Grace Nielsen, and Kandice Nielsen; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father and brother in law John Jamison.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6 at Farrell Holland Gale Funeral Home, Byron with Pastor Patrick Featherston of First Born Reach officiating. Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Byron. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family or be made to his memorial fund set up at Byron Bank.
