BYRON – Steven M. Fridley, 67, lifelong Byron resident, died unexpectedly Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018 at Swedish-American Hospital, Rockford. Born Nov. 7, 1950 in Rockford, the son of Eugene and Margaret (Campbell) Fridley.

Steve was a 1968 graduate of Byron High and married Beth Beard on Nov. 6, 1976 in Byron. He was employed by Comcast cable company, retired from Marden Distributors, and then took on the favorite job of his life, driving bus #4 for Byron Schools. Steve loved golfing, drinking PBR and was a great story teller who touched countless lives.

Survived by his wife, Beth Fridley of Byron; brothers, Richard (Karen) Fridley of Rockford and David (Laura) Fridley of Byron; special cuz, Barb Stone; and many generations of nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Gene and Peg Fridley.

Cremation rites to be accorded. A Celebration of Life for Steve will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Steve's name may be made to Byron Mary Morgan School for playground equipment. Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Byron assisted the family.
