Stillman Valley High School Outdoor Club Traveled to the Ozarks

Posted

The Stillman Valley High School Outdoor Club recently spent three days in the Ozarks of Missouri, Canoeing about 26 miles down the Current River.

Members explored the spring fed water system, hiked to an underground lake located in a giant sinkhole, discovered an abandoned cabin that they later found out was the historic Pulltite Cabin located next to one of the natural springs that feed the river system, and encountered wildlife along the way. They spent two nights tent camping at Pulltite Campground, part of the National Park Riverway system. On the trip home they stopped at the St. Louis Zoo to learn more about animals and habitat.

"I would like to thank Mr. Vos and Mr. Fritz for their continued service to our SVHS students in the capacity of our Outdoor Club program,” said Heather Alderks, Stillman Valley High School activties director. “They take several trips throughout the year which allow students to experience a variety of outdoor activities and the opportunity to explore nature."
