Wava I. (Noffsinger) Nickerson, 91, died peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2021 in her home surrounded and held by her husband and children in Morning View, Ky. Wava was born in Mount Morris, the daughter of Earl and Peryl (Oxley) Noffsinger.
She was married John Nickerson Jr. for 69 years and raised four children. Wava and John have 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved cooking and baking and her delicious signature dishes were famous in family celebrations. She enjoyed volunteering in Meals on Wheels and helping others in need. She was adventurous and enjoyed the outdoors.
Wava is survived by her husband, John Nickerson of Morning View; daughters Kathy (Marty) Monaghan of Mt. Vernon, Ky., and Kelly (Wade) Ward of Morning View, Ky.; sons John (Teresa) Nickerson of Blairsville, Ga., and Gene Nickerson of La Crosse, Wis.; sister Dorothy (Noffsinger) Grover of Ashton.
Wav a was predeceased by her parents Ear and Peryl; brothers Charles, Earl and Frank; and sister Viola.
Wava was a graduate of Oregon High School, where she was very active in band, chorus and athletics.
Wava retired from Lockheed Martin in Orland, Fla., where she held the position of chief inspector for numerous programs. Wava was a kind woman and loved by all who knew her.
