William J. Neuliep

OREGON – William J. Neuliep, affectionately known as "Doc," 95, passed away Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017 at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon. Bill was born Sept. 29, 1922 to William C. and Alvina (Dettmerig) Neuliep in Chicago Heights.

He proudly served with the United States Marines during WWII. Bill married his first wife, Vernelle Schrohe in Chicago Heights. She preceded him in death on Dec. 26, 1972. He married Margaret Himes on Aug. 14, 1977 in Rochelle. Margaret was his loving wife for over 40 years. Doc served his community for 63 years as a local veterinarian.

In addition to his first wife, Bill is preceded in death by a son, David Himes; two brothers: Albert and Emill; two sisters: Mabel Zagone and Alvina Neuliep and granddaughter, Michelle Fry on June 21, 2015.

Bill is survived by his wife, Margaret, four children: Janice (Steve) Fry of Concord, N.C., James Neuliep of De Pere, Wis.; Franklin Himes of Oregon, and Libby (Richard) Meyer of Byron; daughter-in-law, Liz Himes of Rockford; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

The visitation was from 4- 6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle. The funeral was held at 10 a.m.., Friday, Dec. 8 at the First Presbyterian Church, 1100 Calvin Road, Rochelle with Pastors Doug Forsberg and James Tilley officiating.
