Murals have been popping up all over the area lately, but the latest one in Oregon took a few extra hands to be truly complete. Dixon-based mural artist Nora Reuter designed and will complete the mural on the Village Bakery building at 101 N. 3rd St. in Oregon, but she had help Thursday morning.

The Mt. Morris Jamboree is pleased to announce the return of western swing band Swingbilly RFD to our bandshell stage, playing a two-hour free concert on Friday, July 26 starting at 7 p.m. 

For 53 years, Autumn On Parade has come to life because of the community spirit and pride among Oregonites.

Approximately 580 4-H project exhibits and 1,000 project animals will be showcased by Ogle County’s 284 4-H club members in 13 clubs during the 2024 Ogle County Fair, Oregon, July 31-Aug. 4.  

Hundreds gathered on June 29 at Serenity Hospice and Home’s garden in Oregon to remember loved ones who have died. Annually, Serenity holds this special event to honor those who have passed and release monarch butterflies to experience a time of hope and joy.

Mt. Morris Fire Chief, sixth-generation Mounder and Historian Rob Hough IV will be the presenter for the Oregon Illinois Depot’s “Those Were The Days” program on Saturday, July 27 at 10 a.m.

The Rotary Club of Byron voted to dissolve effective July 1 following 15 years of service to Byron and to the wider regional, national and international communities.

Oregon-Mt. Morris Kiwanis are grateful for the support from Bob Ryder’s family. Bob, a long-time Oregon resident, Oregon High School parent, teacher, coach and board member passed away on April 26.

The Mt. Morris Jamboree is pleased to announce the highly-anticipated return of Chicago's oldies rock and roll band, The StingRays, to our band shell for a free two-hour concert on July 5 from 7-9 p.m.

Rick Lindy and the Wild Ones return to town after their rousing debut performance at the Mt. Morris Jamboree on June 14 to play a free concert for the Let Freedom Ring Festival on July 4 from 6-8 p.m. at the former DLR School, located at 105 W.  Brayton Road.

The First Fridays Open Mic presents its monthly show at the Oregon VFW this July 5. The event attracts many talented performers, but musicians and singers of all skill levels find acceptance from its supportive audience.

The Byron Museum’s 37th Annual Quilt Show will be held during ByronFest July 12, 13, and 14. The museum is seeking area quilters and collectors to display their fabric works of art. Quilt registration opens June 26 and ends on July 10 at 3 p.m.

Members of Byron Choirs, alumni, family, and friends returned from their Ireland tour on June 9.  During the tour they were able to perform in many beautiful venues inside and out.  With the final performance being an exchange concert at the Royal Ireland Academy of Music. 

The Nash Recreation Center pool will be closed July 29-Sept. 9 for scheduled improvements. 

Oregon P.E.O. Chapter IU recently announced its 2024 scholarship recipients.

Vintage honky tonk country band, The New Heartaches, make their debut at the Mt. Morris Jamboree for a free concert from 7-9 p.m. on June 28.

Monroe Center Grade School is proud to announce that one of its own, Ainsley McCarthy, a dedicated third grade student, successfully organized a "Dress for a Donation" event to raise funds for the local K-9 unit. The initiative aims to support Officer Kyle White and his K-9 partner, Gator, by providing essential gear and resources for their work in the community.

June 17 marked a significant moment for Oregon Community Unit School District 220 (CUSD 220) as Dr. Tom Mahoney presided over his final Board of Education (BOE) meeting as the superintendent of schools. After a dedicated 17-year tenure with the district, including 14 years as superintendent, Mahoney is stepping down to enjoy his retirement.

The June 29 "Those Were the Days " presentation at 10 a.m. at the Oregon Illinois Depot will feature Dr. Tom Wadsworth of Dixon. The speaker's subject will be "Billy Sunday's Remarkable Revivals in Sterling and Dixon, in 1904 and 1905.” 

The Kohler Foundation Inc. (KFI), in Kohler, Wisconsin, is restoring the Veterans Memorial Fountain in Mt. Morris.

The Peterson Farm Bros. delighted audiences at the Leaf River Summer Daze festival on Sunday, June 2 with their engaging presentation on agriculture, life lessons, and entertaining song parodies.
