Ag in the Classroom in Ogle and Carroll counties will host an Agriculture Career Exploration Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Blackhawk Center, 1101 Jefferson St. in Oregon. It is free and open to the public.

On the morning of Oct. 25 before school, approximately 50 Byron Middle School students and staff took part in the first ever “Tiger Trek,” a bike ride from Blackhawk Park BMS to help build community and to start the day with an activity.

The Ogle County Republican Party recently delivered its final batch of the election season of donated goods to Lifeline Food & Self-Help Project in Oregon, concluding a campaign that raised goods for the needy in exchange for Trump/Vance lawn signs.

The First Fridays Open Mic presents its monthly show at the Oregon VFW this Nov. 1. This indoor event attracts many talented performers, but musicians and singers of all skill levels find acceptance from its supportive audience.

On Oct. 17, 100 Women Who Care of Ogle County met at Pine Grove at Pinecrest in Mt. Morris and voted to donate $10,500 to HOPE of Ogle County.

Loaves & Fish Food Pantry alongside Northern Illinois Food Bank is hosting a Mobile Food Pantry on Thursday, Oct. 24 from 10-11:30 a.m.

The Village of Progress held its Annual Awards Banquet on Oct. 9 at St. Mary’s Leaning Center, Oregon. It celebrates the accomplishments of those who attend the Village and the many volunteers who donate their time and talent.

Over many decades, the Lorado Taft Field Campus provided great outdoor experiences for generations of young people as well as offering core instruction for NIU master’s degree students in outdoor teaching education. 

The 2024 Ogle County Farm Stroll took place on Sunday, Oct. 13, with six farms opening their doors to the public. The farms on the stroll were Barnhart's Stone Corner, BerryView Orchard, Dietrich Ranch, Happily Homegrown, Hough's Maple Lane Farm, and Orion Organics.

Alayna Young was recently named the September Student of the Month at Polo Community High School and received a scholarship from the Polo Schools Foundation for her efforts. She is the daughter of David and Andria Young.

Illinois State Superintendent Dr. Tony Sanders visited the Oregon School District, accompanied by Superintendent Dr. PJ Caposey and Assistant Superintendent Mr. Adam Larsen. During his visit, Sanders toured the district’s elementary and high schools, exploring various parts of the schools and learning about the district's history.

On Sunday, Sept. 29, Leaf River Baptist Church gathered in unity and gratitude to celebrate 40 years of worship, community, and spiritual growth. The milestone event welcomed former pastors, church members, and friends for a weekend filled with worship, music, and fellowship, highlighting the church's enduring legacy in Leaf River.

On Tuesday, Oct. 8, Sen. Andrew Chesney (R-Freeport) stopped by Forreston High School to meet with the Forreston FFA Trap team.
