When asked about what it will be like for her to hand over the keys to the building that houses The Kitchen Table upon the closing of its coming sale, Carolyn Brown, the Rochelle nonprofit’s founder, got tears in her eyes. The donation and volunteer-based eatery/community pay-what-you-can café will not operate this winter after Nov. 21. The building will soon be sold to a for-profit restaurant in need of a location.

In September, Rebecca Laudati was hired as the new executive director of HOPE of Ogle County. She replaces longtime Executive Director Ruth Carter, who recently retired. 

Small Business Bingo held its first event of the fall on Thursday, Nov. 7 at the hangar at Chicagoland Skydiving Center in Rochelle and raised $5,555 that will be split between HOPE of Ogle County and Shining Star Children’s Advocacy Center, Event Organizer and AP Massage Therapy Owner Ashley Patrick said.

On Thursday, Nov. 7, the Rochelle Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution presented a flag that has been flown over Constitution Hall in Washington D.C. to the Flagg Township Museum in Rochelle. 

During the General Election Nov. 5, Ogle County saw a 76.6 percent voter turnout with 25,933 ballots cast out of 33,870 total voters. 

The Rink at Pine Creek recently underwent renovations including improvements to its front facade with a mural and the expansion of its arcade, doubling it in size, Owner Rebecca Wilson said Oct. 29. 

The Harlem Veteran Project will be hosting a free viewing of "Take Your Own Notes", a documentary featuring five female veterans from the region, at the Coliseum Museum of Art, Antiquities & Americana at 124 N. 4th St. in Oregon on Nov. 16 at 4 p.m. 

On Saturday, Oct. 26, Habitat for Humanity of Ogle County hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for its next new home build at 117 Prairie Moon Drive in Davis Junction. 

Ruth Carter serves as HOPE of Ogle County’s executive director and will be retiring this year. She’s been with the non-profit organization that helps survivors of domestic abuse since 1991. She started as a counselor before becoming executive director in 2009. 

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and HOPE of Ogle County, a non-profit organization that helps survivors of domestic abuse, is working with local organizations and businesses this month on a social media pledge initiative. 

No structures or standing corn was damaged after a 100-acre field fire was seen in Esmond late Friday morning, Rochelle Fire Department Firefighter/Paramedic Curt Helgren said.

A 17-year-old Ashton boy has been charged with murder stemming from a 16-year-old girl that was found dead in an apartment in Ashton on Tuesday, a Lee County Sheriff’s Office press release said Wednesday.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a homicide that occurred at 702 Richardson Ave., Apartment A in Ashton on Oct. 15, a press release that day said.

Rochelle Municipal Utilities recently welcomed home three members of its electric department that worked on storm recovery efforts in Georgia following Hurricane Helene. 

Amid Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Rochelle Community Hospital is going above and beyond its year-round efforts this month to raise awareness, offer mammograms, and catch cases of breast cancer as early as possible, RCH Radiology Department Manager Joy Miller said Oct. 8.

Mosaic art pieces made by the students in the Rochelle Elementary School District HUB Program are being auctioned off this month to benefit the Danny and Stephanie Williams Fund for the Arts, a donor-advised fund at the Rochelle Area Community Foundation.

City of Rochelle Economic Development Director Jason Anderson will retire at the end of 2024 after 20 years in his position. 

The Ogle County Emergency Response Team’s use of deadly force in a June 12 incident at a home in Lost Nation that left a barricaded Dixon man and three officers shot has been ruled justified, a Sept. 27 press release from Ogle County State’s Attorney Mike Rock said. 

The Rochelle Police Department is currently investigating a suspicious death after a 41-year-old Rochelle man was found deceased at 101 N. Washington St. Friday morning, RPD Chief Pete Pavia said. 

On Thursday, Sept. 26, Rochelle Community Hospital hosted its annual cookout for employees and the community. The event is in its third year and is hosted by RCH’s Food and Nutrition department. 

There was no evidence found of shooting at Shangri-La Mobile Home Park near Rochelle after two calls came in reporting shots fired late Tuesday night, Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle said Wednesday morning. 

Dr. Thomas Champley recently retired from his position as Ogle County Animal Control administrator after 28 years of service. Champley was honored for his service since 1996 at the Ogle County Board’s Sept. 17 meeting.
