Betty May (Smith) Homer

SOUTH BELOIT — Betty May (Smith) Homer, age 101, of South Beloit, IL passed away on April 29, 2025 in Beloit, WI.  Betty was born August 30, 1923 in Marlette, MI the daughter of Ethel and Egbert (Martin) Smith.

She attended a one room school through the 8th grade, then bussed to Marlette High School, graduating in 1940.  Graduated from Baker University in Flint, MI as a Secretary.

Betty married George Reeves in 1946 and moved to Mt. Morris, IL.  She was employed by Watt Publishing Co. as a secretary.  One of her greatest joys was when they adopted Randall and Lesa.  She was an active member of the Church of the Brethren.  George and Betty were active in Boy Scouting and started Troop 99 in Mt. Morris

In 1970, Betty married Percy Homer and moved to South Beloit, IL.  She was an active member of the Rockton United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and New Century Book Club.  Betty enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and Alaska, Canada, Mexico, Israel, Europe, British Isles and Asia.  She loved antiquing and playing bridge.

Betty is survived by and will be missed by her daughter, Lesa (Don) Stevens; granddaughters, Abigail (Savanah) Stevens-Kellman and Jillian (Devon Pilz) Stevens all of South Beloit, IL; step-granddaughter, Anna Peeken; four great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marguerite Zatt of Barrington, IL; as well as many nieces, nephews and special friends.

Betty is preceded in death by husbands George Reeves and Percy Homer; son, Randall Reeves; step-daughter, Mary Peeken; parents; sisters, Genevieve Hagar of Riverside, CA, Donna Sutton of Pt. Huron, MI; brothers, Kenneth Smith of Marlette, MI, Harold Smith of Colorado Springs, CO; step-grandsons, John and Tom Peeken of Lafayette, IN.

A Funeral Ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 10, 2025 in Rockton United Methodist Church, 102 W. Chapel St., Rockton, IL with Pastor Carolyn Lukasick officiating.  A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of ceremony, Saturday.  Burial in Floral Lawn Cemetery, South Beloit, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Rockton United Methodist Church, 102 W. Chapel St., Rockton, IL 61072.
