WOODSTOCK — The Byron High School varsity boys basketball team took down Rockford Lutheran 64-51 on Friday to claim the IHSA 2A Regional Championship at Marian Central Catholic. Byron (21-9) defeated Marian Central 54-41 in the semifinal round on Wednesday evening.
Cason Newton led the Tigers with 18 points in the regional finals, while Ben Hiveley added 16 points and Weston Auker recorded 14 points. The Tigers will advance and compete in the IHSA 2A Marengo Sectional next week.
The team is coached by Matt Huels and includes Zion Gautier, Kole Aken, Weston Auker, Cason Newton, JJ Edmonson, Ben Hiveley, Riley Kesler, Hunter Haas, Davis Baker, Oliver Jones, Jordan Croegaert, Jacob Lawver, Kaden McGough and Caden Considine.
