FORRESTON — The Byron High School varsity boys basketball team defeated Winnebago 55-53 on Friday, Dec. 20 to clinch its third consecutive Forreston Holiday Tournament title. Cason Newton scored a team-high 22 points for the Tigers, who edged Genoa-Kingston 63-62 on Thursday, Dec. 19 to advance to the finals.
Byron started the tournament with a 54-42 win over Oregon on Monday, Dec. 16 and a 70-12 thumping against Ashton-Franklin Center on Saturday, Dec. 14. Newton was named to the All-Tournament First Team.
