STILLMAN VALLEY – On Thursday, July 19, 11 interns and staff members from the Byron Exelon Nuclear Plant partnered with Highland Elementary School in Stillman Valley.

Interns from the Byron Exelon Nuclear Plant sought out a partnership with Highland Elementary and worked to provide a day of community service.

“This work helped knock out over a week of facility projects and helps get us 5 steps closer to starting the school year, said Joe Mullikin, principal at Highland Elementary.

Interns helped assemble new furniture, paint classrooms, hang whiteboards, install new vent covers, install new outdoor benches, and tear out old landscaping. This work helped to continue to jumpstart the process of continuing to make Highland beautiful and inviting. Not only did the Byron Exelon interns spend the day working at the school, they are also working on a Krispy Kreme fundraiser that will help raise money for school supplies.

Highland extended a huge thank you to the Byron Exelon Nuclear Plant, the interns and staff involved, and especially Jose Luis Salinas and Yeslin Medina. Salinas and Medina have been instrumental in helping to work with Mullikin and staff at Highland to complete this service project and fundraiser.
