BYRON – Charles Roland Snyder, age 94, passed away at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford on Jan. 27, 2020. He was born on July 25, 1925 in Dundee, the son of Charles and Rosetta (Eakle) Snyder.
Charles left school and joined the United States Navy to serve in WWII. After serving his country he finished school to graduate from Byron High School in 1947. Following school; he married Barbara Joan. In 1950 he was recalled to serve in the Korean Conflict until 1952. He worked for many years as a plumber and retired from Winnebago County where he worked as a plumbing inspector. Charles was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Foreston. He believed in being active in the community and served as the Leaf River Village Trustee. He was also a long-time member of the American Legion Post 1148, the Leaf River Historical Society, Village Zoning and Planning Committee, Pecatonica Historical Society, and the Boy Scout Troop 78 Committee. He volunteered for the Byron Museum, Village of Progress Board of Directors, the St. James Church Council, and was a volunteer fireman for over 30 years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joan; children Kim (Rebecca) Snyder of Durand and Michele (Larry) Schnorr of Pecatonica; siblings, Kenneth (Connie) Snyder of Stillman Valley, David (Chris) Snyder of Byron, Joyce Carr of Mt. Morris, and Carolyn Wyllie of Byron; 11 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Melody, brother Robert, and sisters Mary Jane and Patsy.
