Democrats hold successful fundraiser

OREGON – The Ogle County Democrats annual fundraising luncheon was held on Sunday, Sept. 19th at the Loredo Taft Campus of NIU in Oregon.

The successful event raised significant funds to help support Democratic candidates in the 2022 election cycle.

Illinois Secretary of State candidate David Moore kicked off the speeches. He is one of the candidates running to replace Jesse White as Secretary of State. Moore currently serves on the Chicago City Council representing the Seventeenth Ward. He enlightened the crowd with information about all the facets of government that the Secretary of State manages as he spoke of his calling to public service. He was well received and was quite an interesting speaker.

Then it was Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza’s turn. She is a seasoned speaker and a truly amazing public servant. She described the budget crisis she inherited back in 2016 and the methods and means that she and the legislature took to attack the deficit, despite resistance from then-Governor Rauner. The legislature took bipartisan steps to work around him and at one point overturned one of his vetos with 100 percent support of the legislature in order to get Illinois back on the right fiscal track.

Mendoza led efforts that raised the state’s credit ratings twice and has eliminated over 2/3 of the debt while getting our bill paying in order; according to Mendoza, our current bills are all being paid within 10 days.

The fundraising raffles were drawn after the speakers at the conclusion of the event. All who attended truly enjoyed both the speakers and the fine dinner provided by the staff at the Loredo Taft Campus.
