Girls Basketball: Byron Lady Tigers win IHSA 2A Regional Championship

BHS takes down Aurora Central Catholic 82-59 in finals on Friday

AURORA — The Byron High School varsity girls basketball team claimed the IHSA 2A Aurora Central Catholic Regional Championship on Friday evening. Byron (31-2, 8-1 BNC) took down host school Aurora Central Catholic 82-59 in the final round and will advance to the IHSA 2A Rock Falls Sectional next week.

Malia Morton led the Lady Tigers with 33 points in the championship game, scoring 28 of them in the second half. Macy Groharing added 25 points for the Lady Tigers, who cruised over Johnsburg 71-38 in the regional semifinals on Monday evening. It's Byron's third regional championship over the last four seasons.

The team is coached by Eric Yerly and assisted by Bryant Suess and Katie Roush. The team includes Alya Roschi, Layni Marchini, Macy Groharing, Kenzie Lemke, Abby Moser, Karsyn Bielskis, Brynn Green, Jaden Palzkill, Sophia McCracken, Malia Morton, Aubrie Fuller and Meredith Jones.
