OREGON — Herschel M. Newcomer, age 79, of Oregon, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2024, in Peoria, IL after an auto accident.
He was born in Dixon, IL on May 16, 1945, to Maurice and Ruth French Newcomer. He was raised by his Aunt and Uncle, Ella and Charles Adair. He married Gloria Kay Workman on December 11, 1966, at Pine Creek Christian Church in Polo, IL.
Herschel worked 44 years at Quebecor Printing in Mt. Morris, IL, and farmed for many years in Pine Creek Township, a true “Pinecricker”. Herschel drove for L + K Transport later in life.
He loved John Deere antique tractors, classic country music, family and his friends at the local cafe and coffee shop. He was also a proud veteran.
Herschel was preceded in death by his parents and the Adairs.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria, his children, Darrell (Ophelia), of Clermont, FL, Kent (Agnieszka Golasinska) of Plainfield, IL, and Shari (Chad Shamon) of Chesterton, IN, brothers, Harry Dale (Yaun) of Winston Salem, NC, David (Janette) of Wheaton, IL, Steve (Lauren) of Cave Junction, OR, Jerry (Barb) of Valparaiso, IN, Larry (Sandy) of Browntown, WI, and Richard of Rockford, IL, Aunt Ethel (Richard) Mennenga of Sterling, IL, grandchildren, Nickolaus and Kevin Newcomer of Plainfield, Carson Shanon of Chesterton, IN, and Julia Wojdyla of Pustelnik, Poland, and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at Polo Family Funeral Home on Thursday, October 24, 2024, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, with the funeral service beginning at 11. The graveside service will follow at Pine Creek Christian Church Cemetery.
