Letter: Solicitors

Dear editor,

I recently read in your paper about the county and its latest act, allowing door-to-door solicitation. This is putting the public (your voters) in danger. I believe our city has had an ordinance against this for many years. We got our sign at City Hall years ago. I also believe it is a way for criminals to see if anyone is home. People who live alone will not appreciate this ordinance either.

Some “solicitors” pay no attention to the sign and I have experienced a sample of this within the last week. For many years  we have had two signs on our vacant lot. One is “private property, no trespassing.” The other is “No Dogs” and it is large. Two days this week some man was playing with his dog and the dog was using it as his private toilet. I called Chief Kalnins so he would have a record of it.

So signs aren’t always observed, but they help. Get one. I think they are free.
